His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), accompanied by His Excellency Seedy Keita, Minister of Finance (IBD Governor), and senior government officials, visited innovative processing facilities peanuts and electricity cogeneration in Banjul. This first-hand experience allowed them to see the remarkable progress and widespread impact of the “Increased Valorization of the Groundnut Sector” project.

This visionary project aims to:

Boost national food security through advanced groundnut production techniques.

Reduce poverty among rural populations, benefiting over 70% of the workforce.

Enhance economic resilience through modern processing and energy-efficient power generation.

Promote sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring the sector’s future and environmental health.

During the site visit, the transformative role of advanced technologies in elevating The Gambia’s groundnut sector and driving sustainable economic growth was highlighted. This project exemplifies the power of strategic initiatives in unlocking the potential of agriculture, a cornerstone of many of our member countries’ economies.
